Platycnemidae

In UK these insects are called white legged damsels on account of the males having thickened tibiae (legs) which they use to display in front of the females. These insects are are one of few dragonflies that don't simply attack their females for mating. All three species are found in Spain although our northern European Platycnemis pennipes is restricted to the very north around the Pyrenees.

P. latipes (the all white one) is common on streams and rivers almost anywhere but P. acutipennis (the orange one) is much more local and is usually found only up until about the middle of July.
