Corduliidae

Iberian has probably the best populations in the Western Palearctic for these most iconic European dragonflies.

Macromia splendens - now known to be locally common on rivers in the south and west of the peninsula and responsible for absorbing a huge proportion of my life. I have produced three papers on this insect in 2015 alone; I can add no more

Oxygastra curtisii - This is the most curious of all our European dragonflies. In summary it is not even closely related to the Corduliidae; its nearest relatives are to be found in Brazil and South Africa. In Iberia it is locally common on rivers and often on tiny streams
