Coenagrionidae
The blue and red damselflies are well represented. Ceriagrion tenellum and Pyrrhosomma nymphula are both locally common usually in densely vegetated running water. Enallagma cyathigerum is found on ponds and lakes and the remaining damsels are represented by Coenagrion scitulum, which is the common pond species whilst C. mercuriale and C. caerulescens are locally common on small heavily vegetated streams. C. puella,is much more local than in Northern Europe and is very rare in the south.
Two Erythromma species are well distributed with E. lindeni common on most rivers often seen flying strongly over the open water. E. viridulum has an odd distribution and can be abundant on endorreic lakes.
The three Ischnuras present problems. The following sub-page should help.
